I’ve known Jayna for over 20 years. We danced at the same studio and went to high school together. She’s the kind of girl you always want to be around because she’s such a positive person, she has a beautiful smile, an infectious laugh and knows how to have a good time in any situation! I’m lucky to call Jayna my friend! So I was excited to work with her and knew we’d have fun together.
When I walked into her closet my jaw dropped because she had so many beautiful clothes! But you know the saying, “I have a closet full of clothes with nothing to wear?” THIS was Jayna. She had a lot of the same types of tops in different colors, lots of clothing with the tags still on, a ton of dresses and duplicates (sometimes triplicates) of pieces of clothing (like black shirts for example), items she hadn’t worn in years, that she was bored with, etc. you get my drift. And even though her closet was overflowing, she felt uninspired with her wardrobe. So my job was to get her excited about her clothes again, streamline her closet and show her how to put outfits together and accessorize. Read on to see what that experience was like for Jayna and what style means to her.
What type of service did you hire Marie for?
Wardrobe Styling/Closet Consultation.
What was your experience like working with a Personal Stylist?
It was amazing! Marie came to my house and we talked about what I was looking to accomplish with her styling services. I was feeling like my wardrobe was boring and I had all these clothes that I never wore, or didn’t know how to wear them with other items in my closet. I also felt like I was missing key pieces in my wardrobe and was hoping Marie could help me fill those gaps! The first thing Marie and I did together was go through every piece of clothing that I own…like EVERY PIECE! She asked me when the last time I wore each piece of clothing and how often I would wear it. We took this opportunity to start a great “Donation” pile as there were definitely items of clothing that were, let’s just say…”out of date”! We even went through ALL my shoes, purses, scarves and every piece of jewelry (which I don’t have much of, so that part was easy)! If I wasn’t sure about the fit of a piece, or how it looked on me, I would put it on for Marie and she would pass along her opinion on how it looked and we would decide on whether to keep or donate. The process of going through all my clothes took about 1.5 hours I think….but it was so much fun, that I wasn’t even keeping track of time. Once we went through all my clothes, shoes and jewelry, Marie asked that I step away from the closet and let her do her “magic”. She needed to be alone to let her creative juices run wild. I had no idea what that meant at the time, but I left her alone for about an hour. As I waited in excitement, I had to start cleaning my house to distract me from wanting to know what was “going on up there”, as I left someone alone with all my clothes 😉 After about an hour, Marie called me to come to my room. The first thing I saw was a rolling rack full of clothes. Marie had put together 15…yes FIFTEEN different outfits using all my own clothes, jewelry, purses and shoes. We went through each outfit one at a time. She had outfits paired together for different occasions such as work (business professional), date nights with my husband, and even put together some new outfits for next summer! Marie had paired scarves with blazers that I would never have thought to wear together, she paired prints with other prints, found jewelry that I could wear with a work dress to brighten it up and showed me ways to pair my suit pants with more than just the matching blazer it came with. We laid out each outfit on my bed and I took a picture for reference. The best part of this process was to see how I could wear a clothing item more than one way and with other items I own in my closet! After we went through all my amazing new outfits, Marie made a list of items that I could buy and add to my wardrobe to finish off some outfits, and even made suggestions on wear to buy them. To my surprise, I thought she was going to come back with a huge list of clothes I needed to add, but after going through everything, she said that I didn’t really need to buy much. Just some accessories and statement necklaces to go with some outfits and a basic black scarf. I literally felt like I had a whole new wardrobe, existing among all the clothes and accessories I already own. That was the best part!
The most helpful part was seeing how an item of clothing could be worn so many different ways with other pieces of clothing that I already own. I also found it very helpful to know what pieces of clothing or jewelry I needed to buy that would act as some staple pieces in my closet. I also really enjoyed having someone help me clean out my closet and get rid of items that didn’t fit, were out of style, or just didn’t look good on me
Would you work with a Personal Stylist again?
Absolutely. I feel like I will need Marie to come back in 6 months to a year to go through this process again and to help me freshen up my wardrobe. I tend to buy and wear the same style of “flowy” tops all the time and it would be great to learn about what the new fashion trends are for the current time and switch up my “look”, while feeling confident and comfortable.
What does style mean to you? Why is it important?
To me style means feeling and looking good in the clothes that I wear, and that makes me feel happy and confident. In terms of industry style, I feel like their are many trends out there, but I sometimes don’t feel like I can “pull” them off, so I find myself gravitating to always wearing the same style of clothing. I’m looking forward to Marie helping me develop my own style!
